I have not walked as I should have,

I’ve fallen short along the way.

Yet the Lord preserved His people,

And so I write these words today.

I watched the faithful grow fewer,

While pride swept many hearts away.

Still these sacred words were guarded

For a future, brighter day.

And my final plea is known.
