Many Waters

A song from Gold Records Vol. 1 - 1 Nephi.

Lyrics

He stood beside the harbor

With the salt wind in his face

While the old men cursed the ocean

And said no ship could cross that place

But something moved within him

Like a fire beneath the skin

Every map looked incomplete now

And the tide kept pulling him

They said the sea would swallow

Every soul that sailed too far

That the edge of all creation

Waited somewhere past the stars

But he dreamed of distant shorelines

He could never quite explain

Like a voice beyond the waters

Calling softly through the rain

And the Spirit of God

Wrought upon the man

Through the restless sea

And the shifting sands

Past the fear of men

Past the great unknown

There was something in the west

Calling him home

Three small ships against the darkness

Wood and canvas, wave and prayer

Every night the crew grew restless

Certain death was waiting there

But he lifted up his eyes

To the heavens burning bright

And believed the hand of Providence

Still was leading through the night

Not because the man was perfect

Not because the road was clear

But because the God of nations

Still can move the hearts of men

And the Spirit of God

Wrought upon the man

Through the roaring waves

Toward a promised land

And the old world faded

Like shadows on the foam

As Heaven crossed the waters

To call the scattered home
